Disarming Scripture by Dereck Flood
Flood’s book is one of the most honest and challenging engagements with the Bible written in recent years. He doesn’t let liberals off the hook for ignoring difficult texts, and he doesn’t let conservatives off the hook for sanitising them. Instead, he asks a harder question: what if faithful reading requires us to wrestle — really wrestle — with Scripture, just as Abraham wrestled with God?
We’re forming a small group to read and discuss Disarming Scripture together, chapter by chapter. This won’t be a devotional — it will be a genuine intellectual and theological conversation. You should come expecting to be challenged, to have your assumptions tested, and to leave with better questions than you arrived with.
The plan is to meet for 8 – 10 sessions every alternate Wednesday ( 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
beginning April 22nd in person at our house,
60 Elimatta Road
Mona Vale,
(or online via Teams)
If that sounds like your kind of evening drop me a reply if you are interested, in person or online, so we can get an idea of numbers.
In peace,

Ps. You can get a copy of the book – Disarming Scripture by Derek Flood online at Amazon, or I’m sure where good Christian books are sold. We will also dedicate the first 30 minutes of each session for a quiet time of reflection or a chapter catch up before the conversation begins. We will also try and provide chapter summaries if anyone would find helpful.
