You Can Act Now! Links

These  are links to some areas of concern we as a chruch are currently looking for action on:

It’s working! In the last two weeks, thousands of Amnesty International supporters from all walks of life have answered the call to protect traditional Aboriginal homelands in the Northern Territory, and everyone – from the media to our nation’s political leaders, have sat up and took notice.

It’s been an amazing response, and we couldn’t be prouder or more grateful. Thank you.

Here’s the latest: in the last two weeks we’ve brought together delegations of key homelands residents and elders to meet directly decision-makers in Canberra – including Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin and Minister for Indigenous Health Warren Snowden.

We’ve sat down across the table, and now we want decision-makers to hear from the thousands of Australians we couldn’t fit inside the room: you. Please take a moment to send a quick personal message to Jenny Macklin and Warren Snowden now.

Research shows that with proper services people can be healthier, live longer and contribute valuable work on homelands, all with their identity and connection to the land intact. Yet the government’s policy of stripping funding from essential services will effectively force people into hub towns and cities.

Jenny Macklin has been getting asked a few tough questions lately in the media – and she’s tried to claim the government supports homelands [1]. Unfortunately the policy tells a different story. Now is the moment to seize the momentum and convince both Jenny Macklin and Warren Snowden that the Australian public want homelands respected and essential services adequately funded.

You don’t have to be a policy expert to write your email – with just a few sentences you can let the government know that you care about homelands. To make things even easier, we’ll give you some key talking points to start you off – and with thousands of personal messages being sent, we can send a powerful message that is hard to ignore.

Thank you for using your voice – and thank you for all that you do,

Sarah Marland
